Declamation is based off an Old English text from the Junius manuscript (aka "Caedmon's Metrical Paraphrase of Parts of the Holy Scriptures"). Its pitch material arises from a set of associations between abstract theological concepts in the text and musical intervals. The music itself therefore represents the meaning of the text in a very real way. Declamation's continually varying yet intrinsically structured interval content produces a compelling and unique soundscape.
